How to Recalibrate a Goldmann Tonometer
A Goldmann tonometer is an instrument that measures tension or pressure. Eye care professionals use it to measure fluid pressure inside the eye. It is one of an ophthalmologist's more important tools. Technicians need to calibrate them in order to function. The good news is that someone can calibrate this instrument in a matter of minutes.Instructions

1
Slide your Goldmann tonometer out of its cradle and place it flat on a desk so that the end is just hanging over the edge.
-
2
Open your weight kit and remove the weight piece you intend to calibrate. Place it in the circular holder at the end of the metal arm on the tonometer.
-
3
Rotate the circular dial on the side of the tonometer until you come to the appropriate setting. For example, if you are trying to calibrate a 2 gram weight you will set the dial to the "2" setting.
-
4
Turn the dial slightly forward or backward until the arm is completely horizontal and is not dipping down or raising up. You have calibrated the tonometer.
