Standard Progressive Lenses Vs. Premium
Progressive lenses are a kind of lens worn for presbyopia and give users an alternative to bifocals or trifocals. Two types of progressive lenses are standard and premium, which differ in cost, quality and versatility of frame choices.-
Progressive Lenses
-
While bifocals and trifocals have distinct divisions between the sections for seeing nearby and faraway objects, progressive lenses provide a variety of lens powers with no dividing lines. This design not only allows users to hide the fact that they have presbyopia but also allows viewers to see their surroundings with no visible seam in the center of their vision.
Standard Progressive Lenses
-
As of 2010, the price of standard progressive lenses ranged from $175 to $250, depending on the brand of lens. However, standard progressive lenses need to be a certain height in order to transition properly between distance vision and reading, which means that frames using them must also meet a minimum height in order to provide full functionality.
Premium Progressive Lenses
-
Premium progressive lenses provide a wider reading area than standard progressive lenses. The lenses also have a high level of customization, allowing users to wear them with any frame. Since the lenses are digitally surfaced, they provide clearer vision than standard progressive lenses, with no waves or distortion. However, the cost is correspondingly higher.
