How to Remove Scratches From Plastic Lens

Plastic eye or sun glasses can become easily scratched. That is especially the case if there is anti-reflective coating on the surface. Small abrasions and scratches on the plastic lenses are somewhat inevitable after wearing the glasses for a while. While you can take them to an optician to get the scratches removed, there are home remedies for removing scratches from plastic lenses. Scratches can't be removed from glass lenses like they can from plastic lenses.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on latex gloves. Apply a commercial product that contains hydrofluoric acid, or straight hydrofluoric acid, to the area of the glasses that is scratched. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding how long to leave it on. It's usually left on for approximately 5 minutes and then buffed using a soft cloth and washed off with water.

    • 2

Spray a light mist of solution from a DVD/CD repair kit onto the scratches. Use a soft cloth to gently buff the surface. Repeat as needed until the scratches are removed from the plastic lens.

    • 3

Spray a small amount of furniture polish on the scratches. Buff the scratch over the lens using a soft cloth until you remove the scratches. Do this two or three times if necessary.
