Is Tay-Sachs disease due to heredity?

Tay-Sachs disease is a genetic disorder that is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. This means that both parents must carry a copy of the mutated gene in order for a child to inherit the disease. If both parents are carriers, there is a 25% chance that each of their children will have Tay-Sachs disease, a 50% chance that each of their children will be carriers, and a 25% chance that each of their children will be neither a carrier nor have the disease.
