Is it safe to try conceive if my husband has mono?

Mono, or infectious mononucleosis, is a common viral infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Kissing, sharing drinks or eating utensils with an infected person are ways the virus is mainly transmitted.

Although mono is contagious, it's not a reason for partners practicing monogamous relationships to avoid being physically intimate while one of them is sick with mono. The reason for this is that a person that is sexually active with an infected partner who is shedding the virus will eventually also become infected, regardless of whether or not intercourse stops while one of the partners is sick.

However, if one of the partners does not want to get sick with mono, they should avoid engaging in activities which allow transmission of bodily fluids with the infected partner, such as kissing or sharing drinks or utensils.
