What is the Thalamic Syndrome?
Thalamic syndrome is a group of symptoms that arise following damage to the thalamus, a small structure deep within the brain that coordinates motor movement and sensory integration. Damage can interrupt these processes, manifesting in physical limitations such as impaired motor control, muscle weakness, involuntary movements, speech difficulties, memory loss, visual problems, sleep disturbances, mood changes, pain and temperature dysregulation. Depending on the location and extent of the lesion, additional symptoms such as decreased responsiveness or coma might be present.
