How many copies of Chromosome 21 are there in someone who has Down syndrome?

Someone who has Down syndrome has three copies of Chromosome 21 instead of the typical two copies. This extra copy of Chromosome 21 causes the developmental and physical characteristics associated with Down syndrome.
