How to Prevent Gilberts Disease

Gilbert's Syndrome is a common genetic liver disorder commonly found in males and is identified by improper processing of bilirubin in the liver. While there is no way to prevent this benign disease, you may be able to prevent many of its common symptoms including jaundice of the skin and eyes, fatigue, abdominal pain, dark urine and loss of appetite.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid skipping meals or fasting for long periods of time. This will help keep your immune system strong and assist in preventing elevated bilirubin levels caused by the common cold and flu.

    • 2

Keep yourself hydrated at all times. This will also prevent and soothe cold symptoms that can increase bilirubin levels and augment Gilbert's Syndrome symptoms.

    • 3

Avoid stressful or traumatic situations. When avoiding those types of situations is not an option, have a plan of action for coping such as breathing techniques, meditation or yoga.

    • 4

Adhere to a low intensity fitness regimen and avoid rigorous activity that tends to increase fluctuating bilirubin levels.
