Here are the steps on how to bathe a bedridden person
1. Gather Supplies:
- Washcloth/sponge
- Tub/basin with warm water
- Soap
- Towel
- A basin for rinse water
- Change of clothes
- Underpad
- Rubber gloves ( to prevent cross contamination)
2. Prepare the Bed:
- Place an underpad under the person to protect the mattress.
3. Wash Hands & Wear Gloves:
- Start by washing your hands and putting on rubber gloves.
4. Uncover and Expose the Area to be Washed:
- Gently uncover the person and expose only the body part that is going to be washed.
5. Wet the Washcloth:
- Submerge the washcloth or a soft sponge into the basin with the warm water.
6. Add Soap:
- Squeeze some soap onto the wet washcloth or sponge.
7. Begin Washing:
- Start washing the face and neck area with the soapy cloth, taking care to clean around the eyes, ears, and nose.
8. Wash the Rest of the Body:
- Once the face is clean, work down the chest and torso by gently wiping the soapy cloth over the body.
9. Rinse:
- Wet the separate washcloth or sponge with clean water and gently wipe over the washed areas to rinse off the soap.
10. Towel Dry:
- Use a clean, dry towel to pat the washed areas dry.
11. Change Clothes:
- Provide the person with dry, clean clothes.
