How to Head Lice
Head lice are small, wingless insects that live on the human scalp and feed on blood. They can cause itching, irritation, and even infection if not treated promptly.
To get rid of head lice, you will need to:
1.) Apply a lice treatment to the scalp and hair. There are many over-the-counter lice treatments available, or your doctor may prescribe a prescription treatment.
2.) Leave the treatment in for the amount of time specified on the package.
3.) Rinse the treatment out of hair and comb through with a fine tooth comb to remove dead lice and nits (lice eggs).
4.) Repeat steps 1-3 after 7-10 days to kill any newly hatched lice.
In addition to using a lice treatment, you should also:
1.) Check all members of the family for lice and treat anyone who is infested.
2.) Wash all bedding, clothing, and towels in hot water.
3.) Vacuum carpets and furniture.
4.) Store hats, scarves, and other headwear in a sealed bag for at least 2 weeks.
Preventing Head Lice:
1.) Avoid head-to-head contact with people who have lice.
2.) Do not share combs, brushes, hats, or other personal items with people who have lice.
3.) Wash your bedding, clothing, and towels in hot water regularly.
4.) Periodically check your children's heads for lice.
