1
Consume 2,000 to 3,000 milligrams of alfalfa daily in either tablet or capsule. Alfafa is a terrific herbal approach to treating gout because it is a rich source of a variety of minerals and nutrients. These minerals serve to reduce the amount of uric acid; since a buildup of uric acid is the cause of gout, anything that can reduce this acid is good news for gout sufferers.

2
Supplement your diet with bilberry extract. Bilberry is a terrific source for anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins. These are both antioxidants and the use of antioxidants is helpful for treating gout because it can help reduce the inflammation that produces the pain associated with gout.

Make a paste using cayenne powder and wintergreen oil. Apply the paste to the specific area where the pain is located. Due to the cayenne powder, there may be a slight stinging sensation at first, but don't be alarmed and after repeated applications even this sensation will disappear. If you absolutely cannot stand the stinging, take cayenne powder in a capsule form.

Supplements of many different types of herbs have proven to be effective for treating gout. Devil's claw and yucca are especially useful for treating the pain associated with inflammation. Herbs such as birch, juniper, burdock, hyssop, and colchicum tincture are not as good at alleviating the pain, but can facilitate the healing process.
