Symptoms of Ovarian Endometriosis

Ovarian endometriosis, more commonly referred to as endometriosis, occurs when the material that is shed during menstruation (called endometrium) grows outside of the uterus. While some women with this condition will not have any symptoms, others will have symptoms that range from mild to severe.
  1. Pain

    • Painful symptoms of ovarian endometriosis include pelvic pain, severe menstrual cramps, pain during intercourse, back pain a couple of days prior to menstruation, rectal pain or pain during bowel movements.

    Infertility

    • Infertility is present in 20 to 40 percent of women with endometriosis. This may be the only symptom a woman experiences with this condition.

    Abnormal Bleeding

    • Abnormal bleeding may include blood in the urine or stool, premenstrual spotting or vaginal bleeding after intercourse.

    Cycle

    • The symptoms of ovarian endometriosis are often most severe right before or during menstruation. However, some women experience symptoms all the time.

    Other Conditions

    • These symptoms also appear in other conditions, such as adenomyosis, uterine fibroids or painful periods.
