1
Apply over-the-counter anti-fungal medications. Since yeast infections are caused by fungus, your local drug or grocery store offers a selection of fast and effective treatments. Application instructions vary. Therefore, it’s important to follow the medication’s instruction.
-
2
Visit your general practitioner or gynecologist. Often times, a severe yeast infection doesn’t respond well to over-the-counter medications. Additionally, you may suffer from recurrent infections. Talk with your doctor and enquire about an oral anti-fungal medication.
-
3
Get an accurate diagnosis. If you suffer from frequent yeast infection symptoms, talk with your doctor. Sometimes, yeast infections mimic other types of conditions, such as urinary tract infections. Your doctor will examine the discharge and provide a correct diagnosis.
-
4
Wear loose-fitting clothes. To soothe a yeast infection, stay away from tight clothes. This includes jeans, tights and pantyhoses. These clothes can trap moisture and worsen your condition.
-
5
Change into dry clothes. If your pants or underwear get wet, change them immediately. The idea is to keep the vaginal area dry, at least until the yeast infection is cured. Any wetness or moisture can interfere with your recovery and cause a relapse.
-
6
Stay away from douches and scented products. Perfumed body washes and panty liners can aggravate an existing yeast infection and increase your odds of developing future infections. Use mild, unscented vaginal cleansers.
