Fundal Fibroid Tumor

Women between the ages of 30 and 40 can develop uterine fibroids, also known as fibromyomas, leiomyomas or myomas. Most women do not know they have uterine fibroids, including fundal fibroids, because they cause no health effects.
  1. Uterine Fibroids

    • According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop within a woman's uterus. They range in size from that of a pea to more than 5 inches in length.

    Significance

    • Fibroids are the most common pelvic growth found in women. The Mayo Clinic states that as many as three out of four women might experience them over time.

    Fundal Fibroid

    • A fundal fibroid is a fibroid found in the fundus, the widest portion of the uterus that is farthest from the cervix, states "Vaginal Hysterectomy."

    Treatment

    • Most fibroids cause no symptoms at all. Doctors usually will not recommend any treatment but will instead monitor fibroid growth and your comfort over time.

    Considerations

    • Fundal fibroids can cause complications during a vaginal hysterectomy, making it difficult for a surgeon to remove your uterus.
