The symptoms of a faecal impaction may include:

- constipation for several days or more without passing any stools.

- the inability to pass gas

- abdominal pain or cramping

- a constant urge to use the toilet with little or no stool being produced

- hard or lumpy stool that may resemble rabbit droppings

- nausea

- vomiting

- lower back pain

- inability to feel stool in the rectum

- fecal incontinence (soiling)

- loss of appetite

- a sense of fullness or pressure in the rectum
