How to Clear Up Yeast Infections

Yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, is a fungal infection that is spawned by microscopic fungi. Anti-fungal medication is needed to clear up the infection. Though there are anti-fungal medications that you can purchase without a prescription, if this is your first time experiencing yeast infection symptoms, visit your doctor. The doctor will be able confirm that you indeed have a yeast infection as opposed to a sexually transmitted disease.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a yeast infection treatment that contains butoconazole, clotrimazole, miconazole, monazole, nystatin, tioconazole or terconazole. The type you use will depend on your doctor's prescription. You can also purchase a few over-the-counter yeast infection treatments such as Monistat, Tea Tree Suppositories and Vagi-Gard.

    • 2

Insert the yeast infection creme or suppository inside of the vagina according to the dosage instructions on the label or as prescribed by your doctor. Note that not all treatments will come as cremes and suppositories; some will come in pill form.

    • 3

Do not stop taking the yeast infection treatments just because you no longer see vaginal discharge. Use all of the medication to ensure the yeast does not come back.

    • 4

Wear clothing that fits loosely in the crotch area, since tight clothing can cause the yeast infection to stick around longer.

    • 5

Keep the vaginal area dry. If you go swimming or get wet, change your clothes immediately afterwards to avoid creating an atmosphere where the yeast can thrive.

    • 6

Refrain from wearing synthetic underwear. Instead, wear underwear made of cotton or other natural fibers that will allow air circulation in the crotch area.

    • 7

Consult your doctor if your yeast infection has not cleared up after you have finished taking all of the medication as prescribed.
