How to Get Rid of Uterine Fibroid Pain

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that form in the tissue lining the uterus. Excess estrogen production is the main cause. They usually do not cause any symptoms but if they grow larger, they can cause pain and heavier and longer periods. Shrinking the fibroids is key to easing the accompanying pain.

Instructions

Talk to your doctor about medications and procedures intended to treat fibroids. Taking certain types of medications interfere with estrogen production, which causes the fibroids to shrink. As they get smaller, they will stop causing pain. Follow all of your doctor's instructions regarding your medication and never stop or alter your treatment without talking to your doctor first. Certain surgical and nonsurgical procedures can get rid of the fibroids but carry certain risks depending on the procedure.

Monitor your diet. Avoid foods that contain synthetic hormones. This includes conventionally produced meat and dairy products. If you want to eat these foods, look for organic versions that do not use hormones in their animals. Increase your consumption of fruits, vegetables and soy foods; they contain beneficial phytoestrogens that mimic the estrogen found in your body. These phytoestrogens bind to receptors in the fibroid tissue, which prevents regular estrogen from attaching itself.

Exercise for 30 to 60 minutes at least several times a week. Regular exercise lowers estrogen levels.

Lose weight if you are overweight. Hormones are produced in our body fat. Excess fat means excess estrogen. Eat lots of fresh, unprocessed foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Reduce consumption of saturated fat found in animal products and sugar.
