Diets for Teens Who Have Candida

Candida albians is a fungus that lives in both men and women's digestive and genital tracts. Also known as a yeast infection, it can cause sore throat, vaginitis, rashes and nail infections. Hormonal changes brought on by puberty can raise the levels of natural yeast and cause an infection. Yeast also thrives in sugary environments. By eating less refined carbohydrates, sugary foods, processed foods and products with yeast, you are able to reduce your amount of infections. Find out what you can eat to have a healthy body.
  1. Sugar

    • Most of us love sugary foods from time to time. Vending machines, lunch room cafeterias and fast food restaurants offer easy temptations. Avoid sugary treats by treating your sweet tooth to non-sugar yogurt parfaits. Add a non-acidic fruit like apples and a sprinkling of oat bran. The acidolphilus in the yogurt has great antifungal properties to eliminate yeast. It can restore the natural flora of the bowels and vagina. Refrain from eating ice cream, candy, pastries, cookie and cakes. To get you through sugar cravings, pop in a non-sugar candy or piece of gum.

    Dairy

    • Dairy products not only encourage the growth of yeast, but also suppress your immune system. Sometimes a food allergy to dairy can promote yeast infections. Start a food journal to see if you have more symptoms of yeast infections after eating dairy. It's hard to avoid dairy, so look at ingredient labels for their listing. In their place, try out soy products and alternative dairy products. Soy cheese, milk and meat alternatives are available in most grocery stores. You can also experiment with different types of almond milk and cheese or coconut ice cream.

    Carbohydrates

    • Yeast is in many carbohydrates like breads, pastas, baked goods, gravies and soy sauce. All grains containing gluten can also give you a yeast infection. Because of the vast amount of people with gluten allergies, there are many gluten free products on the market. Crackers, pancakes, bread mixes, cakes and pastas are available without gluten or yeast. Most of them are no different in taste to conventional products. Try to incorporate into your diet more vegetables and lean meats. See what diet plan works best for you. Oftentimes, avoiding yeast inducing foods for a short period of time can cure you from frequent infections. When you go back to your normal diet, be sure to slowly introduce the foods you have been avoiding.
