Home Cure for a Yeast Infection
-
Types
-
Not all types of yeast infections can be cured at home without a trip to the doctor. Common yeast infections can be cured with over-the-counter products at home, but other types require prescription medication. According to the Mayo Clinic, bacterial vaginosis, atrophic vaginitis and trichomoniasis all require a trip to the doctor. If you're not sure whether you have a common yeast infection or something more serious, use an over-the-counter test kit before you start home treatment.
Treatment
-
Home treatment for yeast infections consists of using an anti-fungal suppository or cream. According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common ingredients in these treatments are tioconazole, miconazole or clotrimazole. You can purchase them at just about any drugstore or store with a pharmacy section. Simply follow the directions on the specific cream or suppository you purchase. Depending on the type, you may need to use it for up to seven days.
Pain Relief
-
It will take some time for your home treatment to cure your yeast infection. You will have pain and irritation in the meantime, which can be treated with cold compresses. Soak a clean washcloth in cold water or wet it and refrigerate it, then place it on the labia area to east the discomfort. Do this as often as necessary until your home cure is successful.
