How to Stop Vaginal Spotting
Abnormal bleeding is a term that describes heavy bleeding or spotting in between or during menstruation. Vaginal spotting is not a serious sign and occurs for several reasons. Stress, hormonal imbalance and use of an intrauterine device are some of the main reasons for vaginal spotting. There are steps to take that will stop spotting, although it is advisable to consult your physician, especially if you are pregnant.Instructions

Relax and prop your feet up. Spotting is a normal occurrence and is best treated by letting it stop on its own. According to Brookside Associates, spotting will subside on its own without treatment. If spotting persists past two to three days, schedule an examination with your obstetrician to rule out polyp growth or uterine problems if you are not currently using doctor-prescribed birth control methods.

Consult your physician regarding estrogen replacement therapy. According to Brookside Associates Medical Education Services, use of low-dose birth control pills or hormonal fluctuations can cause spotting and light periods as estrogen levels decrease. Estrogen replacement will help regulate menstruation and stop spotting along with doctor supervision.

Visit your obstetrician regarding your birth control methods. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that upon beginning birth-control injections or insertion of an intrauterine device, spotting is more likely to occur for up to seven days. Your obstetrician may request that you wait it out and see if your spotting will stop, or change your birth control means. Never start or stop birth control without speaking with your doctor first.

Write down any stress factors you may be experiencing. During a visit to your physician, stress, diet and exercise may be discussed, according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. These factors, as well as any other medications you are taking, could be the cause of a hormonal imbalance, causing your spotting to occur spontaneously.
