Hair Products for Hair Growth

The average person's hair grows at a rate of approximately 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch per month. Some people say their hair grows faster in the summer or in the winter or when it's washed less often. Hair loss is often a concern for men and a growing number of women. There are many products available may help to diminish hair loss and to promote hair growth.
  1. Miconazole Nitrate

    • Miconazole nitrate is designed as a treatment for fungal infections. While it has been found to increase hair growth, it comes with side affects which are not uncommon. Low-grade headaches, spotty redness on the scalp and increased hair shedding are all points to consider before beginning use of products containing this substance. Keep in mind that miconazole nitrate was not developed for hair growth and applications outside of its intended use are at your own risk.

    Biotin

    • Biotin is produced in the body from yeast and bacteria and is essential to muscle and bone strength. One of its primary functions is for the growth of new skin cells and hair. Biotin which is applied using creams and ointments is thought to be less effective than when it is taken orally since it is too thick to be absorbed when applied topically. Supplements taken orally enter the blood stream and are considered to a more effective means of facilitating hair growth and possibly limiting or stopping hair loss.

    Virgin Coconut Oil

    • It is believed that coconut oil contains oils and proteins that can prevent the loss of protein from the hair if it is messaged into the scalp at least twice a week. Reportedly coconut oil can aid in circulation and can prevent dandruff and (supposedly) prevent head lice in addition to aiding in hair growth. Virgin coconut oil is obtained by grating the coconut meat to extract the milk and allowing the milk to stand in a covered container for 24 hours, during that time the oil will separate and rise to the top.

    Olive Oil

    • Discovered in the 1st century, olive oil has been used for centuries by the Greeks for hair growth. Olive oil is said to have the same beneficial affects on hair growth as coconut oil including the ability to condition and moisturize the scalp but also to prevent dandruff, eliminate head lice and prevent hair breakage which allows for growth.

    Vitamin Supplements

    • Many people use vitamin supplements to grow long, healthy hair. While supplements may aid in hair growth a healthy diet consisting of high protein foods, consumption of proper amounts of water and getting enough rest will also facilitate healthy hair growth.
