Reasons for Hair Loss in Teen Boys

Nearly 40 percent of men notice a loss of hair by the age of 35. Many of these men experienced hair loss in their teens. There are a number of reasons that teen boys experience hair loss.
  1. Medical Conditions

    • Commonly called male pattern baldness, androgenic alopecia is one of the most common causes of hair loss in men and teen boys. Other medical conditions that lead to hair loss are skin and scalp conditions, hyperthyroidism, fungal infections, and autoimmune system diseases.

    Diet and Nutrition

    • A poor diet leads to dry skin and hair loss. Because of busy lifestyles, teen boys often neglect their diets. A diet lacking in key minerals such as protein and iron often leads to hair loss.

    Stress

    • Teens suffer ever increasing stress, caused by peer pressure and other factors. In fact, 10 percent of all teens are thought to be affected by stress and anxiety.

    Hairstyles and Haircare Products

    • The abuse of hairstyles and the overuse of haircare products can lead to hair
loss in teen boys. Hairstyles that pull and place stress on the hair can cause
      hair damage and hair loss.

    Medical Advice

    • While all teens are different, many teen boys often find hair loss devastating. Male hair loss is often genetic, and teen boys eventually have to accept this. Teen boys who experience hair loss should have a physical checkup and should seek the advice of a dermatologist.
