Dry Hair Home Remedy
Hair can easily become dried out from the use of blow dryers, flat irons, crimping and curling irons, color treatments, and overuse of hair gels, creams, and sprays. And going to a salon to fix it can be very expensive, especially when almost everything you need to repair dry hair is available at home free of charge!-
Food for Thought
-
Food does not necessarily have to be ingested to keep hair healthy; it can be applied topically. One of the best moisturizing foods is mayonnaise. Shampoo and rinse hair thoroughly. Apply one cup of mayonnaise to hair in lieu of a conditioner, cover it with a shower cap, and let it sit for half an hour. Wash the mayonnaise out with shampoo and allow hair to air dry.
Another concoction that can remedy dry hair is mixing 1/2 of an avocado, 1/2 of a banana, and one egg in a blender. This should be applied in the exact same manner as mayonnaise---wash your hair, then apply the mixture. Cover with a shower cap, let it sit for half an hour, then rinse with gentle shampoo and let your hair air dry.
Environmental Precautions
-
Most of us think of sunburn and skin cancer prevention when told to stay out of the sun. But keeping hair from becoming parched and damaged is another great reason to shun the sun. If this is impossible, wear a hat---or at least apply a sunscreen specifically for hair. And if you go swimming, wear a swim cap. Chlorine can be very destructive on hair.
On the other hand, hair can also become damaged on cold, windy or rainy days too, so try to wear a hat during inclement weather. Another option is to carry an umbrella.
Hair Care Maintenance
-
There are several ways to keep hair healthy through routine maintenance. One is to trim it on a regular basis. When hair is washed, dried, processed, and styled often, this rough treatment can lead to damage, in the form of split ends. These should be cut off every 8 to 10 weeks to keep hair looking great. And do not wash your hair every day. This can strip the hair of the oils it produces naturally to seal and moisturize it. When you do wash your hair, allow it to air dry as often and as much as possible.
If you use a blow dryer, use it sparingly and do not place the setting on the highest level of heat, which can cause heat damage to hair. Set the dryer to a warm or cool setting.
And last, do not use rubber bands or ponytail holders that pull hair out. Try to wear your hair loose, or use a soft headband to keep it out of your face. If hair must be pulled back, use a pony-tail holder made of soft fabric that will be gentle on your head and hair.
