Scalp Folliculitis Treatment

Scalp folliculitis is an inflammation of the scalp that causes acne of the scalp. Scalp folliculits is easily treated and prevented by using a combination of vitamin supplements along with the correct brushing, conditioning and shampooing techniques.
  1. Vitamins

    • Use vitamin supplements to maintain healthy hair growth. Search for vitamin supplements that contain vitamin A, C,E and Folic Acid. Use the vitamin supplements as directed and with a meal to ensure the vitamins don't upset your stomach.

    Shampoo

    • Use shampoos containing coal tar, zinc, salicylic acid and ketoconazole. Alternate shampoos each time you wash the hair. Using all of the ingredients in one washing will cause the hair to become over dried, difficult to manage and can adversely affect the growth of the hair. Leave the shampoo in the hair for one to three minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

    Conditioner

    • Use a natural conditioner made from a solution of 50 percent water and 50 percent apple cider vinegar. Apply the conditioner to the hair and scalp after washing. Leave the conditioner in the hair for one to three minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

    Scalp Massage

    • Use scalp massage in the morning and evening upon waking and before going to bed. Place the pads of the fingers at the base of the neck. Use gentle circular motions. Work from the base of the neck to the front of the head. Keeping the scalp loose through scalp massage reduces the chance of clogged pores and the likelihood of developing scalp folliculitis.

    Saw Palmetto

    • Use Saw Palmetto in the form of supplements or shampoos. Using saw palmetto helps to regulate the hormone DHT within the body. Regulating the hormone DHT also helps to block overproduction of oil from the glands of the scalp.

    Water

    • Use lukewarm water when washing and rinsing shampoo and conditioner from the hair helps to block the overproduction of excessive oils in the scalp. Using water that is too hot can cause the hair to become extremely and excessively oily. Extremely oily conditions in the scalp can cause scalp acne (folliculitis) and adversely affect hair growth.

    Brushing

    • Avoid excessive force and massaging during brushing. Gently brush the hair without massaging the scalp. Excessive force during brushing can cause the scalp to become inflamed and extremely oily. Use a brush with soft boar bristles rather than plastic bristles.
