Natural Cures for Hair Loss

Traditional hair loss treatments consist of applying synthetic chemicals as a topical treatment or through oral medications. While these treatments have been studied for their ability to regrow hair that has been lost due to male pattern baldness, and for those who wish to sustain from ingesting chemicals, there are natural hair loss treatments. These natural alternatives consist of herbs and other ingredients that have been studied for their ability to block hormones that cause hair loss as well as stimulate existing hair follicles. Always speak with your physician prior to starting any natural hair loss procedure.
  1. Saw Palmetto

    • According to the Medical Center at the University of Maryland, saw palmetto works with the prostate to level out the production of testosterone. Within the prostate, testosterone is transformed into DHT, which is the hormone responsible for causing male pattern baldness. By hindering the amount of DHT binding to hair follicles, the hair is able to grow thicker and further thinning will cease. The active ingredients within saw palmetto include polysaccharides, which are used by the body to enhance the immune system as well as reduce inflammation within the body. Saw palmetto is available in tablet and capsule form, both of which can be taken orally for hair growth. Consume at least 160 milligrams two times per day with 8 oz. of chilled water. Discuss this herb with your physician if you have prostate complications, such as prostate cancer.

    Grape Seed Extract

    • Grape seed extract works in a similar manner as saw palmetto by reducing the amount of DHT within the body. DHT prevents vital nutrients from being absorbed into the hair follicle, which will ultimately cause the follicle to die and shed itself from the scalp. This extract is high in polyphenols, which are antioxidants. These antioxidants work to rid free radicals from the body, which are the cause of cellular death that can cause premature aging, such as balding. According to the University of Maryland, grape seed extract is able to level out blood pressure to increase blood flow throughout the body, including the scalp. To treat male pattern baldness, consume at least 100 milligrams of grape seed extract tablets three times per day with 8 oz. of water.
