Do Hair Transplants Work With Very Fine Hair?

Loosing your hair can take its toll on your self-confidence. If Rogaine and other natural over-the-counter remedies have not worked for you, you may have thought about receiving a hair transplant. But if you have fine hair, you might not be sure if it is even possible to undergo the procedure.
  1. What is a hair transplant?

    • A hair transplant is a procedure in which hair from your own head is removed and then grafted into the locations where you are experiencing hair loss. The hair that is removed is generally from the back side of your head, where you have a large amount of hair, so if some is permanently removed (the hair will not grow back once it has been removed), it can not be easily detected.

    What will it cost?

    • Hair transplants can be rather expensive. Most transplants are charged per hair graft (a graft consists of one to five hairs which will be transplanted into the same hair follicle location). Grafts will run, on average, around five dollars each, with generally a minimum of one thousand grafts. This is only if you have slight hair loss. Extreme cases may cause you to receive upwards of three thousand grafts, which would end up costing around fifteen thousand dollars.

Will the procedure work with fine hair?

    • A hair transplant will work with any kind of hair, no matter how coarse or fine the hair is. Yes, it is easier and the results will be more apparent sooner with coarse hair; however, because the hair is transplanted from the back of your own scalp, you will receive your own hair, so the fine hair which is transplanted onto the top of your scalp will look right at home with the rest of the fine hair.
