Treatments for Losing Hair

There are many options when it comes to treating hair loss. Taking a look at some of them may help you determine which is right for you. Whether you choose a natural option, or a medicinal option, you can treat your hair loss safely and effectively.
  1. Medication

    • There are currently two medications approved by the FDA to treat hair loss. Minoxidil, which is found in many products including Rogaine, is available over the counter. Finasteride, found in Propecia, is available by prescription only and is for men only. Hair loss medication blocks the hormone DHT, which causes pattern baldness, and is available to treat both male and female pattern baldness.

    Herbs

    • There are some herbs that act as a DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) blocker, and are suggested to use for both male and female hair loss. Saw Palmetto extract, Green Tea, Pygeum and Nettle Root extract all work to end hair loss and promote new hair growth.

    Essential Oils

    • Some of the essential oils that will help with hair loss can be massaged into the scalp to stimulate blood flow and unclog hair follicles. Basil oil, rosemary and Jojoba oils are all great to use as massaging oils. You can also use bay oil by adding it to your shampoo. Sage oil and Arnica extract can both be used in the water you rinse your hair in when you wash it.

    Home Remedies

    • One way to fight hair loss, is to take a good supplement. Make sure it is high in the B vitamins and vitamin C. Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea will help with new hair growth. Ginkgo Biloba is also something you might want to consider taking as it helps with scalp circulation.

    Diet

    • One thing people often overlook when looking for hair loss treatments, is that they may be able to end or slow the hair loss with simply changing their diet. The typical American diet is high in fat, high in simple carbohydrates and may be one of the causes of hair loss. Eating a lower fat diet, rich in complex carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables, may end the cycle of hair loss for you.
