Hair Loss Herbal Remedies

Almost everyone would keep his or her hair if they could--but inevitably, most people end up losing theirs, and some far sooner than they'd hoped. Myriad expensive, clinically-tested treatments exist to help combat hair loss, but are there any herbal remedies? Yes--too many to include in one article. They are easy to get a hold of, cheap and safe, seeing as they are 100 percent natural. If nothing else, they're worth a try to avoid unwanted baldness.
  1. Green Tea

    • Herbalists swear that green tea--several cups daily--will combat baldness in males. If drinking it isn't an option (as for Mormons, for example), it may be taken in capsule form, available at most drugstores. According to the American Herbalists Guild, the antioxidants in the drink inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into DHT, which can lead to baldness.

    Stinging Nettle

    • The root of the stinging nettle is said to effectively combat hair loss. Stinging nettle root also can be found in capsule form. According to the American Herbalists Guild, stinging nettle contains lipids and minerals that especially stimulate hair growth--including re-growth. Evidently, too, stinging nettle combined with a few saw palmetto gel capsules can work wonders for one's hair growth; combine 5 drops of the gel with an equal amount of stinging nettle extract, then rub the mixture onto your scalp (not for pregnant or nursing women).

    Red Pepper

    • The flesh of a fresh red pepper (a natural skin irritant), rubbed generously across one's scalp, is said to be a fantastic way to induce the release of histamine. The cells of the scalp will subsequently be stimulated, which will in turn cause blood to the area--and with it, nutrients--which can promote the re-growth of hair.

    Aloe Vera

    • Aloe vera gel, rubbed into one's scalp (and hair) on a nightly basis, stimulates hair growth even in those who suffer from premature baldness. According to the American Herbalists Guild, aloe vera contains an enzyme called superoxide dismutane, helpful for hair growth. It also encourages the formation of nitric oxide, another hair growth stimulant.
