Chinese Hair Loss Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine presents natural treatments for hair loss in men and women. Remedies made by the ancient Chinese are available to consumers, and are also used by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries in developing products that combat hair loss. Chinese herbs provide quick results without introducing unnecessary chemicals to the body, but must be used with a doctor's approval to avoid negative interactions with medications.
  1. Types

    • Chinese medicine and treatment for hair loss include Gotu Kola, ginseng and foti. Gotu Kola is used for male baldness and hair loss associated with aging. Ginseng is widely used as a hair loss treatment, along with its other benefits. Foti, also known as shien mien, has been gaining popularity since the mid-1990s.

    Function

    • Gotu Kola works by thickening the collagen in the skin and hair. It has been tested on mice and has been shown to speed up the hair growth in rodents with alopecia. Ginseng has been used for thousands of years to strengthen the hair and promote blood circulation; with proper blood flow, hair is protected from thinning and falling out. Foti is referred to as the longevity herb, because it aids in restoring youthfulness to the aging through the growth of dark hair, and adds color to graying hair.

    Dosage

    • Gotu Kola is administered at 2500 mg, divided in three doses. Ginseng has no known overdose side effect, but it is advisable to take 1 to 3 capsules of 100 to 400 mg, three times daily. Foti is taken twice daily in 6g doses.

    Forms

    • Gotu Kola is taken in capsules or as a tea made from its dried leaves. The dried form of ginseng root is mixed in liquids or can be taken in pill form. Foti comes in powders, extracts, capsules and syrups.

    Benefits

    • Visible results from Chinese natural remedies occur within 2 to 4 weeks. These treatments are safe, pose minimal risk factors and are comparatively less expnsive than commercially produced hair loss treatments.

    Risk Factors

    • Chinese hair loss treatments do not have any side effects, but may affect the metabolizing of prescription drugs. Consult your doctor before using any herbal hair loss treatments, especially if you are taking daily medications.
