Women's Hair Loss Cures
Hair loss in women may occur for many reasons. Age, illness, hormones and poor diet all play a factor in hair loss. Though most hair loss cures and treatments are geared towards men, there are options available for women experiencing hair loss as well.-
Topical Cures
-
Minoxidil is the only topical product approved in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat women's hair loss. Minoxidil has been shown to grow hair in nearly 25 percent of women using it. Most women who do not experience hair growth with Minoxidil show slowing or stopping of hair loss.
Corticosteroids
-
According to the Mayo Clinic, corticosteroids may help treat hair loss in women. The medication is usually injected into the scalp, but may come in pill form (see Resources below).
Hair Replacement
-
Hair replacement is a hair loss cure option for both men and women. A common type of hair replacement involves taking small pieces of hair and scalp unaffected by hair loss and transplanting or grafting the hair into balding or thinning areas.
Scalp Reduction
-
While scalp reduction does not promote new hair growth, it is an option for many women suffering from hair loss. In a scalp reduction, bald areas of the scalp are cut away and areas with hair growth are pulled more closely together and sutured.
Warning
-
Women interested in surgical or medical cures for hair loss should consult with a physician or dermatologist before beginning treatment. Each method of hair loss cure has the danger of complications and/or side effects. Women are encouraged to evaluate several hair loss cure options before committing to one.
