How to Trim Your Nails

Step 1: Gather your tools.

- Nail clippers

- Emery board

- Orange stick or cuticle pusher

- Nail brush

Step 2: Trim your nails.

- Start by trimming your fingernails straight across.

- Trim your toenails on a slight curve, following the natural shape of your nail bed.

- Don't trim your nails too short, as this can lead to ingrown nails.

Step 3: File your nails.

- Use an emery board to file your nails into the desired shape.

- File your nails in one direction only, and avoid sawing back and forth.

- Be careful not to over-file your nails, as this can make them weak.

Step 4: Push back your cuticles.

- Use an orange stick or cuticle pusher to gently push back your cuticles.

- Don't cut or trim your cuticles, as this can damage them.

Step 5: Brush your nails.

Use a nail brush to remove any dirt or debris from your nails.

Step 6: Apply cuticle oil.

- Massage cuticle oil into your nails and cuticles to help keep them hydrated and healthy.

Step 7: Repeat as needed.

- Trim and file your nails every week or two, as needed.

Here are some additional tips for trimming your nails:

- If your nails are brittle or weak, try soaking them in a warm water and soap solution for a few minutes before trimming them.

- If you have any nail problems, such as ingrown nails or nail fungus, see a doctor or dermatologist.

- If your toenails are thick, hard to cut, or difficult to reach, you may want to purchase special tools that have been designed for seniors.
