Natural Ways to Combat Baldness

The Self Care Advisory website states that up to 40 percent of females and 50 percent of males are affected by baldness. To shed a hundred hairs everyday is normal but considered problematic when lost hair is not replaced, leading to baldness. Hormone levels, genetics, stress, illness and poor nutrition play a role in the cause of baldness, according to FamilyDoctor.org. Baldness is difficult to eradicate, but natural methods can slow or halt the process.
  1. Food

    • Hair is formed from protein, so including quality portions of protein in your diet is a must. Iron-rich foods, vitamins A, B complex and E are particularly important for follicle development and hair growth, as are the minerals calcium, magnesium and biotin. Eating yogurt, whole grains, fish, eggs, dark green vegetables, nuts and seeds will also help. (reference 1)

    Green Tea

    • According to the Hair Loss Learning Center, hair loss is commonly caused by too much of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This can slow or stop hair follicle growth and though more common in men, certain women also have high levels. The natural chemicals found in green tea, called catechins, are thought to block testosterone converting to DHT, thereby decreasing their effect. Drink 3 to 4 cups a day, or take a capsule.

    Herbs

    • Hairlossadvisor.com states that herbs taken internally are thought to ease the onslaught of baldness. The list includes stinging nettle, saw palmetto and pygeum, which all inhibit the formation of DHT. Ginkgo biloba increases blood supply to the brain, which could increase nutrient delivery to hair follicles. All can be taken in capsule form.

    Creams

    • Rubbing certain natural products into the scalp may heal and stimulate hair growth, suggests hairlossadvisor.com. These substances include Aloe Vera, rosemary, wheat germ, henna, onion, safflower oil and red pepper.

    Homoeopathy

    • Homoeopathy treats the whole body, not just the symptoms. According to the Hpathy website, homoeopaths see hair loss as an external sign that all is not well within. The treatment will be individual a nd specific to each person, but the aim is to cure the cause, which will lead to a regression in symptoms, including baldness.
