When was conditioner for hair invented?

The history of hair conditioner can be traced back to ancient times when natural ingredients were used to cleanse, moisturize, and style hair. However, the first commercial hair conditioner was developed in the 1900s. In 1906, Edward Germaine, a French hairdresser, created the first lotion for dry hair, which he called Eau de Quinine. This product contained quinine, a compound derived from the cinchona tree bark, which was believed to stimulate hair growth and prevent dandruff. In 1927, the American company Procter & Gamble introduced Drene Shampoo, which included a separate conditioning rinse to be used after shampooing. This marked the beginning of the modern hair conditioner industry.
