How many layers does the epidermis have in hair?
There are three layers of the epidermis in hair:
1. The cuticle: The cuticle is the outermost layer of the epidermis and is made up of tightly packed, scale-like cells. It acts as a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss and damage from environmental factors.
2. The cortex: The cortex is the middle layer of the epidermis and is made up of elongated cells that contain melanin, which gives hair its color. It also provides strength and elasticity to the hair.
3. The medulla: The medulla is the innermost layer of the epidermis and is made up of loosely arranged cells. It is found only in some types of hair and contributes to hair's texture.
