Home Remedies for Male Thinning Hair

There are many factors that contribute to thinning hair, which include poor nutrition, age, genetics, stress, hormonal changes, poor circulation of blood to the scalp, and excess dandruff. There are medications and chemical treatments available to treat thinning hair, but they can be expensive, and you may prefer not to put chemicals on or in your body. Home remedies are an alternative option for thinning hair that use items found in your cupboards.
  1. Olive Oil

    • Olive oil cleans your hair and scalp and unplugs hair follicles.

Olive oil cleans away dirt trapped in your hair, as well as removing sebum (oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands, attached to the hair follicles) that clogs your follicles and forces them to thin out. Pour 1 capful of olive oil on your head each time you wash your hair and massage it in for at least 3 minutes, then rinse it away with mild shampoo.

    Amla Oil

    • Amla oil, made with dry pieces of amla (fruits from the Indian gooseberry tree) that have been boiled in coconut oil, is considered one of the best natural remedies for thinning hair. Mix equal parts amla oil and lime juice and use as a shampoo to stimulate hair growth.

    Eggs

    • Eggs can provide protein your hair might be lacking.

The breakdown of protein can cause hair to thin, as well. By adding an egg to your conditioner, you can give thinning hair the protein it may be lacking. It is recommended that you leave the egg and conditioner mixture on your hair for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse hair thoroughly.

    Aloe Vera

    • Aloe vera gel can energize hair follicles.

You can stimulate hair follicles by using aloe vera gel mixed with a small amount of almond oil. Rub the mixture onto your scalp for 2 minutes, and then leave on your hair for 30 minutes before rinsing. This remedy leaves your scalp cooled and energizes hair follicles.

    Red Pepper

    • Red pepper can be used to make a tonic for thinning hair.

Crushed red peppers work well for thinning hair because they are part of the capsicum family of plants. Capsicum (a type of flowering plant) is believed to encourage hair growth. To make your own tonic, take dry red peppers and boil in water for about 7 minutes, allowing it to cool for 15 minutes afterward. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle (leaving red pepper in it) and after shampooing your hair, apply to your scalp.

    Vinegar

    • Vinegar changes the chemical balance of your hair, making it slightly more acidic. This makes hair appear thicker and gives it shine. To try this remedy, massage a mixture of 1 tbsp. of white vinegar in a pint of water into your hair after shampooing, but remember to rinse before you get out of the shower.

    Onions

    • Onions help circulation, which aids in hair growth.

Lack of blood circulation to your scalp is believed to be a major cause of thinning hair and baldness because the follicles become dry. If you rub onions on your scalp in the areas where hair is thinning, the scalp will turn red, indicating more blood circulation to the area, which essentially quenches the thirst of dry follicles and nourishes them.

    Diet

    • Protein and essential fatty acids play an important role in healthy hair, skin, and nails. Fish, roast beef, and soy products provide protein and many essential vitamins and minerals to encourage healthy hair growth. Soy is also a major source of iron, which is a part of hemoglobin production. Hemoglobin is responsible for getting oxygen to the tissues of the body, and without it, your hair won't grow.

It is also recommended that you include vitamin C, from fruits like oranges, and silica to your diet. Silica aids in the absorption of vitamins and minerals and can be found in whole wheat.
