How to Treat Thinning Hair & Dry Scalp With Shampoo
Thinning hair and dry scalp, due to genetics as well as harsh hair products, are common for both men and women. While oral and topical medication is the best option for hindering the progression of hair thinning, you can also use thickening shampoos found at your local pharmacy or drug store to aid in moisturizing your scalp. Maggie Greenwood-Robinson, author of "Hair Savers for Women," says commercial thickening shampoos used in combination with other hair treatments containing mild ingredients, reduce further hair loss.Things You'll Need

1
Squeeze a quarter-sized amount of shampoo into your hand, and gently massage the product through your hair and onto your scalp. Massage your scalp for 30 seconds to promote scalp circulation, according to Greenwood-Robinson.
-
2
Thoroughly rinse the shampoo out of your hair, and saturate your hair with conditioner. Conditioners provide your hair with moisture, but avoid moisturizing conditioners if you have fine hair as it will weigh the hair down.
-
3
Blot your hair dry with a towel. Do not rub your hair to dry it, as rubbing irritates the scalp and can exacerbate hair thinning.
-
4
Set your blow dry to a warm setting, and gently blow dry your hair. Greenwood-Robinson states wet hair can be easily broken, and should be partially dry prior to combing it. The Mayo Clinic asserts that allowing your hair to air dry reduces hair loss.
