Why Can't Hair Grow Back on Scar Tissue?
Hair loss affects men and women of all ages. In some cases, it is possible to encourage your hair to regrow. However, if your baldness is caused by scar tissue, then your hair cannot grow back.-
Hair Growth
-
Hair grows in a life cycle that follows three stages. Your hair follicle first grows a hair, then sheds it and then goes dormant for a short time before beginning the growth process all over again.
Scar Tissue
-
When you are injured, hair follicles may be destroyed along with skin tissue. When your body creates scar tissue, the follicles are not replaced within it. In the absence of follicles, your hair cannot grow back.
Considerations
-
If the scars are small enough and are surrounded by healthy tissue, it is possible that no one will notice the area where hair does not grow.
Surgical Options
-
If the scar tissue does not cover a large area, a surgeon might be able to remove it and stitch together the surrounding healthy tissue that has follicles growing hair. This will eliminate the bald patch.
Other Options
-
Because there are no hair follicles to stimulate, medication will not help hair grow on your scar tissue. You can hide the bald patch by using a hairpiece.
