Nervousness can do more than just affect your health and overall mental well-being. It can be a recipe of disaster for your hair. A simple shock to your system can cause hair loss for as long as the nervous condition remains.

    • Telogen effluvium is a condition caused by stress and illnesses that cause a sudden shock to the system. This can be due to stress or illness.

    Causes

    • Although people with nervous conditions may experience telogen effluvium, scientists are not entirely sure why. It does cause more hair than usual to enter into telogen (resting) stage, which results in hair thinning and loss.

    Symptoms

    • A symptom of telogen effluvium, in addition to the symptoms of the nervousness itself, is excessive hair thinning or loss from the hairline.

    Treatment

    • There is usually no treatment needed for telogen effluvium since it will generally clear up on its own once the nervous condition is treated.

    Fact

    • If the hair loss is extensive and you need help growing the hair, you could use a product available over-the-counter called topical solution minoxidil.
