Testosterone Hair Growth Information

Testosterone is the most powerful of a group of hormones known as androgens. These hormones are responsible for a number of secondary sex characteristics, hair growth included.
  1. Androgen and Hair

    • Hair follicles are just one type of cell that can be stimulated to growth by androgen introduction.

    Androgen Sensitivity

    • The hair on your head is the most androgen sensitive, followed but facial, body and pubic hair. The amount of testosterone in one's system can be gauged by hair growth in these areas.

    Thickness

    • The thickness of hair is determined in part by testosterone, but has more to do with diet and natural predilection.

    Women

    • Women produce lower quantities of androgen hormones than men do, which is why they tend to have less body hair.

    Body Size and Hair

    • Very muscular men tend to have more hair, and people of a slighter build may be completely devoid of body hair.

    Aging

    • As men age, they produce fewer androgens and often experience hair loss. Women will often experience more hair growth with age, as the testosterone/estrogen balance skews after menopause.
