Keratin Psoriasis Home Remedy

Psoriasis is a skin disease where the body's skin cells grow too rapidly. It occurs because new cells grow faster than the dead layer of skin cells are shed, which makes the skin appear blotchy and red with a silvery scale on top of it. When psoriasis is present, the skin also becomes very thick, because although there's overproduction of skin cells, the immature cells never mature into proper keratin. Keratin is a protein that is commonly present in tissue, but becomes severely inflamed when afflicted with psoriasis.
  1. Herbs

    • You can get relief from the itch and irritation of psoriasis by using various essential oils including chamomile, bergamot, lavender, neroli and rose. You can also encourage the thickened dead skin caused by psoriasis to slough off by rubbing it with moistened oatmeal---the finer the oatmeal, the better the result.

You can also make an ointment or cream out of marigold or red clover, which will help reduce the inflammation and redness on the affected body parts. Sometimes, psoriasis can be triggered by extreme stress. If this is the case, drink tea made with gentle relaxants like chamomile, lavender and lemon balm to restore your body to its natural balance.

    Other Home Remedies

    • You can make other infusions and creams out of natural products to help with the effects of psoriasis. Wheat germ oil mixed with castor oil and olive oil can be rubbed into the affected areas; the mixture helps soften and remove the dead skin. A mixture of marigold, oregano and olive oil can also help reduce and possibly eliminate the symptoms of psoriasis, at least temporarily.

Applying dried burdock seed and dried chamomile flowers to the affected areas may also soothe the skin. Although home remedies are good and can improve the condition of psoriasis for a long time, it is very difficult to treat psoriasis in its entirety and permanently with home remedies. If you have psoriasis, consult a health care professional, who can give you better strategies on combating it.

    Other Strategies

    • You can reduce the effects of psoriasis by changing parts of your lifestyle. For example, you should get a healthy amount of sun exposure every day. However, you shouldn't expose yourself to harmful amounts of sun. Try to limit direct exposure to sunlight to increments of under 15 minutes. Avoid the sun or limit your exposure to it between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., which is when the sun is at its hottest.

You should also moisturize your skin regularly and not wash your skin repeatedly unless needed---soaps tend to dry out your skin, aggravating the condition. Also, when you dry off your body, blot out the moisture instead of rubbing yourself dry, so as not to further irritate your skin.
