Hair Loss Treatment for Adults

Some adults, primarily men, experience hair loss as they get older. This can be treated in many different ways, but success depends on the individual. Consult a doctor to find out which hair loss treatment is best for you.
  1. Creams and Foams

    • The most common form of treatment for hair loss is creams and foams that are applied to the affected scalp area. It is inexpensive, and new hair growth should be seen in 12 weeks.

    Oral Medication

    • The drug finasteride is a pill that can be taken daily to reduce male pattern baldness. New hair growth will not be seen for a few months after taking the medication.

    Surgery

    • If medications have little or no effect, hair transplant surgery is a new option for men who have experienced serious hair loss. While the rate of success is high, hair transplant surgery is expensive and painful.

    New Hairstyle

    • Sometimes all it takes to hide embarrassing hair loss is the right hairstyle. Michael Jordan goes for the clean-shaven look and pulls it off with class. If your baldness is minor, a comb-over may work just fine as a cover for the bare spots.

    Wigs

    • Wigs and hairpieces are for men who have experienced significant hair loss and still want to sport a full head of hair. All colors and styles are available, but you should choose a wig that is reminiscent of your own hair (it will look more natural this way).
