Pycnogenol & Hair Growth

Pycnogenol has been credited with preventing blood clots, strokes, heart infarctions, lowering blood pressure and relieving erectile dysfunction. None of the available research clearly links pycnogenol to hair growth. Yet the same properties that provide the health benefits above can also be applied to healthy hair growth and follicle rejuvenation.
  1. Pycnogenol

    • Pine bark

Pycnogenol, a French pine bark extract, is found to be one of the purest and most potent natural antioxidants and anti-coagulants. There are no pesticides used during the pine's growth. This is also complemented by the absence of toxic solvents during the manufacturing of pycnogenol, which lessens the possibility of side effects.

    Increase in Circulation

    • Healthier cells

Pycnogenol increases blood circulation while strengthening the blood vessels and protects the collagen necessary for the scalp to maintain its elasticity. Scalp massage is widely recommended, but pycnogenol alone causes an overall increase in circulation provides nutrients necessary to regenerate hair follicles and rejuvenate aged hair follicles.

    Cell Protection

    • Stronger and Longer

Pycnogenol's propensity to excel at capturing free radicals prevents the oxidation of cells. It also promotes cell immunity to oxidation caused by stress. Healthier cells promote stronger hair formation during the anagen, or active hair growth, period.

    Stronger Hair Shafts

    • Healthy hair growth results from both the increase of nutrients and defensive properties of pycnogenol. The increase in blood flow stimulates the scalp and provides nutrients necessary for producing strong, healthy hair shafts.

    Supplement Dosage

    • Pycnogenol should be taken as a supplement to other vitamins at a dose of 1mg per kilogram of body weight. Follow package directions or doctor's advisement, if prescribed by a physician.

    Possible Side Effects

    • Pycnogenol should be taken with food or after eating, as its acidic content may cause stomach irritation or nausea if taken on an empty stomach. Other side effects noted by researchers are sleeplessness (if taken at night) and dizziness due to the increased circulation. Children under 6 shouldn't take pycnogenol.
