How to Improve Facial Hair Growth

Although controlled by testosterone levels and therefore linked with adulthood, a person's race and genetics affect growth as well. In fact, some 30- or 40-year old men cannot grow facial hair. If you are unhappy with the growth of your facial hair, combine cosmetic methods that increase the perceived thickness with traditional methods that may increase growth.

Instructions

    • 1

Dye your existing facial hair with facial-hair dye darker than your natural color. Sometimes, the cause of your seeming lack of facial hair growth is related to the lightness of your hair; translucent blond hair tends to show the color of the skin through the hair.

    • 2

Shape the existing hair on your face by creating facial hair lines that remove thin or "patchy" spots. Removing patchy spots leaves the remaining hair thick, giving the illusion of total hair thickness. For example, if you have patchy spots near your chin, you may want to remove the chin hair and focus on growing sideburns while you try treatment methods.

Discuss testosterone injections with your doctor. A reduced amount of facial hair after puberty may be indications of reduced testosterone levels or even hypogonadism. If your doctor finds that this is the case, he may administer testosterone injections, which could, in turn, increase facial-hair growth.

Take biotin, a B-complex vitamin. Because a rare biotin deficiency is linked to hair loss, supplementing your diet with biotin vitamins might encourage facial-hair growth.

    • 5

Stop eating raw egg whites (over-easy eggs may contain some amount of raw egg white). Egg whites contain avadin, an antimicrobial protein that attaches to biotin and prevents absorption, according to Oregon State University. Although it's rare, if you eat raw egg whites regularly for a long period of time, you may open yourself to hair loss caused by biotin deficiency.
