Possible Reasons for Bad Migraine Headaches

Bad migraine headaches are caused by a number of different reasons. Many of these reasons are easily identifiable and treatable, but some of these reasons need the attention of a doctor to cure them.
  1. Identification

    • A migraine is a moderate to severe amount of pain felt in the head. Migraines worsen when there is an increased amount of physical activity, and migraines are usually accompanied with nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

    Headache Causes

    • Intense migraines are triggered by a number of things. These causes include foods, bright lights, loud noises, unusual sounds, intense physical activity, environmental changes, a reaction to medication, low blood sugar, not getting enough sleep and more.

    Stress

    • Stress is one of the main causes of migraines and stress headaches. When a person is stressed, certain chemicals are released in the brain to try to combat the situation. However, the release of these chemicals causes changes in the blood vessels, which cause migraine headaches.

    Symptoms

    • A constant migraine headache could be a symptom of an allergic reaction to a food additive or something more serious such as high blood pressure and cadasil, which stands for cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (see Resources).

More of What a Migraine Might Mean

    • A migraine could indicate that the individual has an inherited or genetic disorder, a brain dysfunction, or MELAS, a rare medical disorder characterized by periods of headaches or better known as dementia.
