Head Concussion Symptoms

Concussions are caused by a sudden impact to the head. Symptoms of a concussion can come on suddenly and last for a few days to a few weeks. All suspected concussions should be evaluated by a doctor.
  1. Amnesia

    • Amnesia after a concussion is fairly normal. The amnesia typically involves the events that led up to the concussion.

    Nausea or Vomiting

    • Nausea or vomiting after a head injury is one of the signs a patient needs immediate care by a physician.

    Slurred Speech

    • Slurred speech is normal after a head injury and should clear up quickly. If it does not clear up or if the patient is a child, seek emergency medical care.

    Loss of Consciousness

    • Loss of consciousness is a sign of a major concussion and should not be looked at lightly. If the patient loses consciousness, an ambulance should be called to transport him to the nearest emergency room.

    Fatigue

    • Fatigue after a head injury is common, but patients should not be allowed to sleep before a thorough examination by a medical professional.
