Sinus Infection Help
Drugs of the antibiotic variety can temporarily bring pain from sinusitis under control. Yet, medical practitioners are increasingly of the opinion that a constant healthy state of the sinus and nasal passages is necessary to prevent recurrence and cure the condition. If you follow certain natural remedies, you can almost certainly get relief from facial and forehead pressure, toothache, tiredness and lasting cold symptoms that are characteristic of sinusitis.-
Fluids
-
Unclogging the sinuses is of primary importance in cases of sinusitis. If you drink a lot of hot fluids like green, black, decaffeinated or herbal tea and chicken broth or vegetable soup, at any time during the day, your sinuses will get slowly unclogged. This is because the heat in the fluids will make your mucous membranes moist, help the nasal membrane feet or cilia to move faster and push out the mucous fast. If you are in for long air travel, beware of the dry air inside the aircraft that is bad for sinuses. Have hot tea made with tea bags regularly during the flight.
Warm Compress
-
Warm compress application is helpful for providing relief from sinusitis. Make a hot compress with a warm moist towelette and hold it to your face, between the eyes, on the forehead and nose thrice a day, for a minimum of five minutes each time. This will melt the mucous, heighten circulation in the sinuses and help the cilia of the nasal membrane to drive out the mucous faster.
Saltwater Irrigation
-
Make a saltwater solution or take a bottle of store bought saline water and learn the correct procedure of sniffing it fast in and out of your nose at reduced pressure. This will take the water directly to the mucous in the sinuses and help flush it out. But be careful, as if you don't do it properly, it could worsen the condition.
Aromatherapy
-
Use various aromatherapy agents like eucalyptus or menthol oil to aid in opening your sinuses. Add a few drops of any of these aromatherapy oil into a hot water bowl or open a bottle of these oils and inhale. The wasabi that comes with your sushi dish in a Japanese restaurant can be used too. All these should be inhaled at least twice every day, especially when it's cold.
Morning Tea
-
Drink a cup of hot tea before you get up from bed in the morning. While you sleep at night, the nasal membrane cilia slow along with a drop in your body temperature. With the hot tea, the cilia can start moving and flushing out the gathered mucus, before you start your day with more complicated activities for your respiratory system in store.
Head Elevation
-
Keep your head at a higher elevation that the rest of your body while sleeping. Use a pillow or two to prop yourself up to keep your nasal passage and sinuses open while you are asleep.
General Measures
-
When you are suffering from a sinus attack, avoid reading, writing or any activity for which you need to use your eyes. Because bright light can increase the pain, try to keep the lights dimmed. Avoid noisy, crowded places to bring the headache under control. Rest well.
