How to Get Rid of a Mild Headache Without Medication

Most of us get headaches once in a while. Not full-blown migraines, but mild headaches that just don't seem to want to go away. Often we take painkillers like Excedrin or Advil but if you don't like popping pills, there are ways to get rid of a mild headache without medication. Here's how.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a nap or at least rest in a dark room. Don't put the TV or radio on. Just lie still and relax. This will ease the tension that might be causing your mild headache.

    • 2

Hydrate. Some mild headaches are caused by not eating or drinking. Have a glass of water and some fruit, such as an apple or orange. This is a great way to naturally get rid of a mild headache without medication.

    • 3

Massage your temples. Also, apply pressure just under the top ridge of your eye socket. Stimulating the nerve there can help to get rid of a mild headache.

    • 4

Apply ice or a cold compress to your head. Place it on your forehead or on the back of your head, at the base of your skull. This can restrict the blood flow causing the pressure of the headache.

    • 5

Use reflexology. Take your right thumb and press it into the area between your thumb and forefinger. Apply pressure for 10 seconds. Do the same with your other hand. Repeat until the headache eases.

    • 6

Get a massage and adjustment from your chiropractor. Most often, mild headaches are the result of tense neck muscles. A trip to the chiropractor may be just what you need to get rid of that mild headache.
