Bad Headache Causes

There are many factors that can cause bad headaches. These factors range from something as simple as sinus pressure to more serious ailments such as a brain aneurysm.
  1. Sinus Headaches

    • Sinus headaches are caused by swelling of the nasal passages due to an infection such as a cold or allergies. Sinus headaches are characterized by pain when you move your head quickly, and pain in one particular area of your head.

    Migraine Headaches

    • Migraine headaches occur when blood vessels in the brain have swelled, causing pain, nausea, and light sensitivity. There is no one definite cause of a migraine headache, but they have been linked to many factors, including allergies, consumption of alcohol, and eating certain foods such as chocolate or cheese.

    Tension Headaches

    • Tension headaches are most often related to stress. They can be caused by lack of sleep, or working in one position for a long period of time. Tension headaches are usually felt as pain surrounding your head. You may also feel tightness around your shoulders or neck.

    Serious Health Conditions

    • Bad headaches can also be caused by more serious ailments, such as an aneurysm, a brain tumor, or encephalitis. If your headache consists of a quick, sharp, intense pain, or is accompanied by stiffness of the neck or fever, you should see a health care professional immediately.
