Is angina pectoris another name for heart attack?

Angina pectoris and a heart attack are related but are not the same. Angina pectoris is a type of chest pain that occurs when the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood. It is a symptom of coronary artery disease (CAD), which is a narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Angina pectoris can be a warning sign that you are at risk for a heart attack, but it is not the same thing as a heart attack. A heart attack occurs when the blood flow to the heart is completely blocked, causing damage to the heart muscle.
