Heart Failure Condition & Symptoms

Heart failure can occur in different parts of the organ, leading to varied conditions and symptoms. A doctor will need to determine the exact cause and location of the heart failure, as well as its status as either chronic or acute.
  1. Breathing Problems

    • Breathing problems, such as shortness of breath or coughing up mucus, can indicate a problem with the left side of the heart. Both symptoms are signs of acute and chronic heart failure.

    Chest Pains

    • Chest pains may occur in cases of acute heart failure. Such a symptom may indicate a heart attack and, as is the case with most acute symptoms, should be treated as an emergency.

    Swelling

    • Chronic or long-term heart failure can lead to a buildup of fluids in the body. Such a condition can lead to swelling of the legs, ankles, feet and abdomen, and usually indicates right-side heart failure.

    Fatigue

    • Chronic conditions can also cause some to experience intense fatigue and weakness, including an inability to exercise.

    Rapid Heartbeat

    • A rapid or irregular heartbeat can be a symptom of both chronic and acute heart failure.
